Has the US Government ever co-wrote a comic strip to use as propaganda? Yes. Yes they have.

Because it happened then, it could be happening now. So now we need be aware of what a message a comic might be putting forth.

According to a new exposé by the New Republic, the famous Buz Sawyer comic strip of the 1950s and 60s was co-written by the US government in order to spread pro-American propaganda. Government officials would send cartoonist Roy Crane detailed plot points to make their Cold War foes look villainous, and Crane delivered, week after week. Millions of Americans read the comic strip with no idea the government was behind it.
