GOP: Forever chasing Fairy Tales

There are simple ways to find out if an elected official has gone off the deep end (or becoming QAnonesque). One way has become clear ever since Trump uttered his first election lie in 2020 (even before the election even started):

Q: Do you believe the 2020 election was stolen?
A: Yes (Which automatically confirms and certifies the responder as a right wing nutjob)
There are others (way too many) but the most recent has to do with Elon Musk's alleged "Twitter Files" which he posted to Twitter. "Twitter Files" was suppose to expose something important. It didn't.  Just another stack added to the stupid things right wingers look for.
    New question:
Q) Do you believe there's anything to the Hunter Biden laptop story that exposes President Biden?
A: Yes. (Which, automatically certifies you as a right wing nutjob and a right winger that can't read very well.)
Unfortunately, Mississippi Senator Roger Wicker thinks "Twitter Files" was some great big old revelation of corruption. (Which  it wasn't anywhere near). Wicker told an interviewer this last week that “What we’ve learned is Twitter was in cahoots with the top officials of the Biden campaign trying to get Vice President Biden elected president and they seemed to have succeeded."
Wicker also said "I asked Jack Dorsey, the head of Twitter, if he had information that the laptop was Russian disinformation." Dorsey said no and that he "had no such information." Of course if you ask a question that flies in the face of the narrative you are pushing there is no satisfactory answer available unless the answer supports your pet false narrative of the week. Wicker will continue, as usual, seeking out the truth of the lie he believes and will be frustrated when he never finds it....but even that wont stop him from believing it.  Like Hillary's emails and Benghazi. #DOH

Sen Roger Wicker to Mississippi Voters: I Prayed About it and You Are Wrong

"After reflection and prayer, I now believe our state flag should be put in a museum and replaced by one that is more unifying to all Mississippians," Wicker said in a news release. "As the descendant of several brave Americans who fought for the Confederacy, I have not viewed Mississippi's current state flag as offensive. However, it is clearer and clearer to me that many of my fellow citizens feel differently and that our state flag increasingly portrays a false impression of our state to others."

Mississippi voters decided by a nearly 2-to-1 margin in 2001 to keep the flag with the Confederate X in the upper left corner.

Wicker, Cochran Commemorate Juneteenth Independence Day with Senate Resolution

From Press Release: Unanimous Resolution Marks End of Slavery, Advocates Greater Understanding

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senators Roger Wicker, R-Miss., and Thad Cochran, R-Miss., today announced unanimous approval of a Senate resolution they cosponsored to commemorate Juneteenth Independence Day.

The resolution designates June 19, 2015, as “Juneteenth Independence Day” in recognition of June 19, 1865. This date signifies the true end of slavery in the United States, when the end of the Civil War was finally announced in Galveston, Texas, and the full force of the Emancipation Proclamation was felt throughout the nation. Today, celebrations commemorating this historic moment take place across the country, including in Mississippi.

“This resolution highlights an important day in American history and a landmark moment for freedom, which we continue to defend today,” Wicker said. “The 150th anniversary of this commemoration is an especially significant reminder of our commitment to justice and equality.”

“Juneteenth honors our shared past and reminds us of our continued work to create a fair and just nation,” Cochran said. “I appreciate the support in the Senate for recognizing an important anniversary in our history and its influence today.”

This year marks the 150th Juneteenth anniversary. S.Res.201, introduced by Senators John Cornyn (R-Texas) and Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.), was passed unanimously this week.

The resolution states that the U.S. Senate “recognizes that the observance of the end of slavery is part of the history and heritage of the United States,” and “supports the continued nationwide celebration of ‘Juneteenth Independence Day’ to provide an opportunity for the people of the United States to learn more about the past and to better understand the experiences that have shaped the United States."

The measure also acknowledges that 2015 marks the 50th anniversary of the passage of the Voting Rights Act of 1965, which advanced the cause of fair elections free from racial discrimination.

Thad Cochran & Roger Wicker Support Bill to Dismantle Obamacare

From Press release:

Miss. Senators Back Bill to End Individual, Employer Mandates; Transition for Current Obamacare Enrollees

WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Senators Thad Cochran (R-Miss.) and Roger Wicker (R-Miss.) today announced their support for legislation to establish a process to address health insurance for Americans should the U.S. Supreme Court rule that parts of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, or Obamacare, are unconstitutional.

Cochran and Wicker are original cosponsors of the Preserving Freedom and Choice in Health Care Act (S.1016), which would provide a bridge health care plan option for individuals and families if the Supreme Court ruling on King v. Burwell results in the cancellation of tax subsidies for health care plans purchased on the federal exchange.  The measure, introduced by Senator Ron Johnson (R-Wis.), is intended to fight the federal government’s health care overreach and restore stability and certainty in the insurance marketplace.
“This bill is a reasonable step toward allowing families and individuals, not the Obama administration, to make the health care decisions that are best for them,” Cochran said.  “It would also provide certainty for those who have purchased a plan in the exchange while the Congress seeks to find a long-term solution to fully replace the Affordable Care Act.”

“Americans currently receiving subsidies should not abruptly lose their coverage,” Wicker said. “This bill would help prevent innocent people from being harmed simply because they relied on the Administration’s unlawful actions. The American people have already suffered enough from the law’s skyrocketing premiums, canceled plans, and website glitches.”

In the event of a King v. Burwell decision that rules that patients enrolled in the federal exchange are not eligible for federal tax credits, the Preserving Freedom and Choice in Health Care Act would allow anyone who would lose their tax credits to continue receiving the subsidy through August 2017 for any offered health plan of their choice.  Additionally, the legislation would end Obamacare’s most burdensome regulations by repealing both the employer and individual mandates which would allow for states to determine insurance coverage and benefit requirements, effectively removing the most burdensome regulations imposed by the flawed 2010 law.

Thirty-one Senators have cosponsored the legislation, which has been referred to the Senate Committee on Finance.

Sen Roger Wicker’s Rural Water Bill Headed to Senate Floor

http://www.picayune.us/ms-roger-wicker.html

 Press Release:

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Roger Wicker, R-Miss., a member of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works, on Tuesday praised the Committee’s unanimous approval of the “Grassroots Rural and Small Community Water Systems Act,” S. 611. Wicker introduced the legislation earlier this year with Senator Heidi Heitkamp, D-N.D.

“This program is designed to assist the small communities that would very much like to comply with federal regulations on safe drinking water but simply don’t have the resources,” Wicker said. “Under the new legislation, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) would have the authority to direct funding to nonprofit organizations for the on-site regional training and assistance that these small and rural areas need.”
