Random Observations 10.02.15 #wordslingerfiles

According to the Chicago Tribune, 96 people have been shot in Chicago in the last week (since Sept 25). That's almost 16 per day. Chicago has very strict gun control laws. http://crime.chicagotribune.com/chicago/shootings

Army Vet Chris Mintz tried to stop the shooter but got himself shot seven times. Mintz knew he was in a "gun-free" zone and obeyed the school's policy.

In the 12-minute Speech on Oregon Shooting yesterday, Obama Referred to Himself 28 Times.

After destroying Chicago public schools, and then working at destroying the nations schools with programs like Common Core, Arne Duncan is resigning. Obama quickly named a replacement, John King, who has spent time destroying schools in New York City with the same agenda but even more aggressively.

The good news so far is that Obama has not said "if you like your gun you can keep it,"

LA Times reporting that Oregon shooter did not like black people. Suggestion for NAACP to call for a ban of:
The Oregon flag, body armor, and I'm throwing in pancakes because he might have had pancakes for breakfast

For the record. though Oregon has a concealed carry law, the campus was still a gun-free zone. The media seems to be pushing the concealed carry narrative. In Oregon, the right to bear arms is protected by Article 1, Section 27 of the Oregon Constitution.

Three websites that are usually good to use as a way to verify news stories: Raw Story, Crooks & Liars, and PoliticusUSA.
By "verify" I mean that whatever they report as "news" means that what really happened is usually the opposite of what they report..

Wolf Blitzer claims he has never seen Obama so angry, emotional and "shaken up." Wolf needs to get out more. .

Shorter Obama: It's the nations fault (except for him because he told us just a few months ago)

A "gun safety law" = "ban" in Obamanese.

Obama is about to get on TV and tell the nation tell how outraged he is at what happened in Oregon. The details are still under investigation, but of course, not having facts has not ever stopped Obama from sharing his opinion before. The two words he will likely use most are: "i" and "guns"

But the Oregon campus was a "gun free zone." ......

The fact that Mars seems pretty desolate and NASA has discovered what appears to be some sort of liquid that they cannot even get to proves one thing about the planet: At one time it must of been a planet run by nothing but liberals.

We are now begging the Russians to negotiate with us ... so they don't shoot down our own airplanes. The biggest humiliation of all is that the Russians today said they are the only air force flying legitimately over Syria, because they have the permission and request of the legitimate Syrian government, and we are violating international law with our missions over ISIS. ---Charles Krauthammer

Cecile Richards and Hillary Clinton should book a cell together in advance...you know...before any more Democrats get indicted.

National Education Secretary Arne Duncan Sends His Kids to a Private School In Chicago

President Obama's Education Secretary, Arne Duncan, who has been no champion of school vouchers, is sending his two daughters to a prestigious private school, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.

  • Education Secretary Arne Duncan’s wife and two daughters returned to Chicago with the children to attend the private University of Chicago Lab School, a Duncan spokesman said. Duncan is the former Chicago Public Schools chief who followed President Barack Obama to Washington at the beginning of his first term.

Arne Duncan: Give us your kids 24/7 and they will be secure and successful [paraphrase mine]

Ronald Reagan, who once suggested that  "I'm from the government and I am here to help" is one of the scariest things we could ever hear, would not likely agree. Neither would I.

This week  in Arlington, VA, at the Youth Violence Prevention Summit, Education Secretary Arne Duncan proposed government-run public boarding schools which would be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

One idea that I threw out … is this idea of public boarding schools. That’s a little bit of a different idea, a controversial idea. But the question is—do we have some children where there’s not a mom, there’s not a dad, there’s not a grandma, there’s just nobody at home? There’s just certain kids we should have 24/7 to really create a safe environment and give them a chance to be successful.”

Want Real Education Reform? Opt Out of Common Core

http://adamsackowitz.com/

Adam Sackowitz is a candidate for the East Meadowbrook School Board in Westbury, New York.

On his campaign website he has posted this about Common Core: "Parents, students, and teachers from across the East Meadow School District are gravely concerned about the implementation of Common Core. This top down approach to education is wrong for our students and teachers, and fails to recognize that every student is different. I will be an strong voice on the Board of Education against these standards."

He recently posted more observations at American Thinker, of which some of them are below:

  • Common Core was adopted to bring our educational standards up to those of our foreign competitors. But standards the states had adopted to be guideposts on a trail have, instead, become an HOV, “one-size-fits-all” express-lane curriculum without so much as a passing lane, an exit ramp, or a rest stop. Even supporters like Randi Weingarten, the head of the American Federation of Teachers, are citing its failures. “You think the Obamacare implementation is bad? The implementation of the Common Core is far worse,” she said.

  • Meanwhile, the Obama administration has dismissed Common Core opponents with derisive personal attacks. “Moms,” said education secretary Arne Duncan, oppose Common Core because “their child isn’t as brilliant as they thought they were, and their school isn’t quite as good as they thought they were.” Clearly, Duncan doesn’t get it.

  • When education standards are written with the dogma of a politician’s stump speech, we should recognize that there’s a problem. It’s clear that the politicians, bureaucrats, “experts,” and profiteers who advocate Common Core have all become far too heavily invested – literally and figuratively – to allow their program to fail. Common Core will be imposed, funded, maintained, continued, and declared a “success,” no matter what the actual results might be. The country will be left with an “education system” built in a Potemkin village. We must do better. And we start that by opting out.

Mississippi Common Core: Pot Will Investigate Kettle: Arne Duncan & Carey Wright Edition

Mississippi State Superintendent Carey Wright announced that she would head up a voluntary review of Common Core standards. Wright strongly supports the standards but Associated Press reports that she has said she wants to consider "other views" who oppose the standards.

From Associated Press:
  • State Superintendent Carey Wright said Monday at a luncheon sponsored by the Stennis Institute of Government and the Capitol press corps that the Mississippi Department of Education will solicit public comments for 90 days on English and math standards.A panel of educators will then examine comments and propose possible new standards, deletions or changes to the state Board of Education.

Just recently the Department of Education's Arne Duncan suggested that Common Core will be the Standards of the land regardless. The Washington Post reported:

  • During a discussion with Motoko Rich of The New York Times, Arne Duncan threatened federal government intervention if states did not meet the 95 percent participation rate. Assuming that Duncan is not planning to call in the National Guard to haul off opt-outing 8 year olds, the only possible “sanction” would be withholding funds. That would surely lead to court challenges forcing the Education Department to justify penalizing schools when parents exercise their legitimate right to refuse the test.–an impossible position to defend...............He insinuated that “adults” are causing “the trauma,” thus furthering the stereotype of “the hysterical mom” that those who oppose opt-out often evoke.

I think we may be able to guess what the results of the "study" will be.
