Columbus, Mississippi Council Considering Mandatory early Closures of Convenience Stores

So now Columbus can't handle their crime either? The police department in Jackson recently got court orders to close two convenience stores completely because their were too many "shady" characters hanging around.  Now Columbus is headed that way it appears.

Per WCBI:
  • Monday night the city council will discuss a proposed ordinance that would limit the hours some stores are allowed to be open.
If passed, a store that falls in a single family residential or multi family residential area, would have to close at 10 p.m. Sunday – Thursday and 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
The idea came from a series of town hall meetings in the spring, where some citizens voiced there concerns about people hanging around the stores at night, adding to crime.
