- The ongoing 13-candidate special election to fill the 1st District U.S House vacancy created by the sad and untimely death of incumbent Alan Nunnelee, R-Tupelo, has been fascinating to watch. An incredible eight candidates have put at least $75,000 of their own money, primarily through loans, into their campaigns. Emergency room physician Starner Jones, a Pontotoc resident, leads the way, putting $475,000, primarily listed as loans to the candidate, into his campaign.
