For the record, I hate faux manufactured outrage. This time in Michigan.
- During a Wednesday broadcast on NBC-affiliated WDIV-TV Local 4, anchor Carmen Harlan discussed a possible ISIS-connected threat in the state. “Given the fact that we have the largest Arab population outside of the Middle East, I guess this should not come as a real surprise,” she said. [MediIte]
“Comments like these are an example of racial profiling at its worst and Carmen Harlan should apologize immediately,” said Progress Michigan’s executive director . "At it's worst?" Really.Considering that Arab nations are rising up against ISIS, I hardly consider it a moot point.
Regardless, Carmen Harlen apologized: "In no way did I mean to imply that because of our community's makeup, there was a higher risk. That was never my intent."
And then Lonnie Scott responded:
“As a respected journalist who has been a staple in Detroit, we believe Harlan meant no ill will in her comments, but they were still dangerous and needed to be addressed. We appreciate the swift and sincere apology Harlan offered.”
Good grief. If Scott thought Harlen meant no ill-will then why did he rush to judgment and tell the media it was "profiling at its worst?"???
